The Brewery

Lost-Worlds-Front-Door.jpg

As the 19th century ended, the airplane, gasoline engine, and other advances made the world a bit smaller.

Explorers and adventurers pushed into uncharted territories and made great discoveries. Returning to their homeland, they congregated with others of a similar nature and swapped stories and shared the artifacts they’d found. In London, New York, San Francisco and other cities, explorers’ clubs were founded for these intrepid souls to delight their peers. Lost Worlds Brewing Company borrows from the history of these original clubs.

 Meet Our Brew Team

Harrison Holder – Lead Brewer

Harrison began his professional brewing career with the inception of Lost Worlds Brewing. However, his journey into craft beer began long before brewing his first batch. He tells us about the first craft beer he remembers having, Fat Tire by New Belgium Brewing. He enjoyed the array of different flavors that were brought forth as well as the hop bitterness that accompanied the brew. Harrison tends to gravitate towards darker styles of beer because of pronounced flavors of caramel, chocolate, and coffee. With that being said, he does like trying different IPAs to taste the different flavors of the hops used.

Harrison attended UNC Charlotte for his undergraduate in Exercise Science, which has given him a great foundation in chemistry and biology, both of which are largely important in the brewing industry. He started homebrewing on a 15-gallon spike system, on which the team brewed some of the initial test brews for Lost Worlds. After about a year and a half of homebrewing, Harrison attended the Appalachian State University short brewing course to further his knowledge on the brewing process, malts, hops, yeast, laboratory setup, packaging and beer spoilage. Over the past two years, guests of Lost Worlds have enjoyed many of Harrison’s recipes including Lahaina DIPA, Otto’s Dunkelweizen, Morley’s Hefeweizen, and Kama Hazy IPA. During his tenure at Lost Worlds, Harrison teamed with David Gonzalez to earn a GABF medal, six state medals and two CIBA medals.

Outside of the beer world, Harrison coaches soccer and loves spending time with his wife, Shannon, and their dog, Carly Sue.

Will Warren, Director of Brewing

Will’s curiosity piqued with a sip of Red Hook IPA back in 2002, which was the turning point to his journey into brewing beer. Much earlier, he served in the aviation electronics helicopter division in the US Marine Corps while completing avionics engineering coursework at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. According to Will, he’s always been a bit of a “gear head” and good at fixing and figuring out things. What a lot of people don’t realize is how crucial this skill becomes when you eventually find your calling in the craft beer industry.

With more than a decade of brewing experience, Will’s recipes have won respect and awards. In 2023 he won a Bronze in the Great American Beer Festival Award for a German Chocolate Cake Imperial Stout. “The GABF award was truly an honor. Over the years, I’ve also been awarded 5 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in NC Brewer’s Cup competitions. I hope to add more metal for Lost Worlds and build on the awards we’ve already won.”
