Crafting Relief for Sudan

Sudan is the scene of the forgotten war – the largest humanitarian crisis in the world today. In October 2021, General al-Burhan and General Hamdan united to seize control of Sudan in a military coup. But their partnership was fraught with personal conflicts. Today, General al-Burhan is the de facto lead of Sudan and General Hamdan leads the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a powerful paramilitary group with a large Arab contingent. Conflict between their forces erupted on April 11, 2023. While hostilities were initially centered around the capital, Khartoum, nearly every other region of the country is now impacted. But the situation has deteriorated…

“In order to draw attention to the largest humanitarian crisis in the world today, Lost Worlds Brewing created “Crafting Relief for Sudan,” says Dave Hamme, founder of Lost Worlds. “This program raises funds to support Doctor’s Without Borders, one of the few remaining organizations operating in Sudan that provides critical care to the children of Sudan.

As 2023 concluded, the RSF seized the town of Wad Medani, a hub for humanitarian operations for those civilians fleeing the war zone. With the RSF’s occupation, the UN World Food Programme was forced to cease operations. Sudan is the now sight of the largest child displacement crisis in the world with over three million children and nearly seven million civilians total without a home. Widespread famine is a looming risk.  Civilian deaths are hard to confirm due to the inaccessibility of the conflict zone, but at least 10,500 civilians are known to have perished and there are widespread reports of torture, rape and genocide perpetrated by the RSF. Nearly another million people have fled Sudan and are in exile in neighboring countries.

Today, Sudan is on the verge of collapse. The infrastructure is disintegrating daily and humanitarian aid cannot reach the war’s victims. With no end in sight to the violence, those suffering in silence deserve our support more than ever.
