Meet Emmet Power: Lost Worlds Charlotte’s Assistant Taproom Manager

If you're looking for a story that takes you from the charming tranquility of rural Ireland to the growing city of Charlotte, meet Emmet Power. Hailing from the small village of Lorrha in County Tipperary, Emmet's upbringing might seem like a world away from the bustling beer scene in Charlotte. Fondly nicknamed "the Arkansas of Ireland" by a friend (though Emmet insists it's far more beautiful!), Lorrha boasts a population of just 40 people.

After attending school locally, Emmet's thirst for adventure led him to Galway, where he pursued a BA in Business and Hotel Management. His education opened doors to a promising career in hospitality, but Emmet always sensed there was something more out there.

In a twist of fate, a simple Google search led Emmet to a year-long visa opportunity in the United States, working in a pub in Louisville, Kentucky. And so began his transcontinental adventure. From the heartland of America to the bustling streets of Southeast Asia, the wild landscapes of Australia, the glitz of Las Vegas, and the political hub of Washington D.C., Emmet's journey was a whirlwind of experiences.

But it was Charlotte that stole his heart. Drawn to the city's culture and burgeoning craft beer scene, Emmet found himself making roots in the Queen City, eventually finding a new adventure at Lost Worlds.

As our assistant taproom manager, Emmet brings his wealth of experience, passion for hospitality, and undeniable Irish charm to our new Charlotte taproom. Whether he's chatting with regulars, curating the perfect beer flight, or sharing stories, Emmet embodies the spirit of Lost Worlds Brewing.

Welcome and sláinte! to Emmet. Let’s get to know our newest manager…

Talk about your new role with Lost Worlds…

In the most basic terms, it’s my responsibility to take care of the day-to-day operations of the Charlotte taproom, ensuring that everyone who comes through the door has the best experience. We take a lot of pride in our guest services model and always go above and beyond what they might expect from a brewery.

What excites you about being part of an innovative, growing business?

What excites me about being part of an innovative, growing business-like Lost Worlds Brewing is the opportunity to unleash creativity and shape the brewery's unique identity.

At Lost Worlds, we're not satisfied with just doing what other breweries are doing. We're constantly pushing boundaries, exploring new flavors, and creating unforgettable experiences for our customers. Whether it's experimenting with bold new beer styles, hosting themed events that transport our guests to other worlds, or finding innovative ways to engage with our community, every day presents a new opportunity to make our mark.

What led you into the craft beer industry, and why?

What led me into the craft beer industry was a bit unexpected—I fell into it after COVID hit, and I've never looked back since. Seeing how breweries have become such a significant part of Charlotte's identity was inspiring, and I wanted to be a part of that. This is my third brewery opening in Charlotte in just three and a half years, and each experience has been uniquely rewarding.

What draws me to this industry is the challenge. No two days are ever the same. There's always something new to learn, something different to try. Our brewers are constantly pushing the envelope, experimenting with flavors, and techniques, and it's exciting to be the person who gets to introduce these innovations to the public.

How do you describe Lost Worlds to someone who is planning to visit for the first time?

As soon as you step through our doors, guests will feel a vibe that’s both welcoming and intriguing. The walls all filled with tales of adventure and exploration -- from ancient civilizations to mythical creatures, our brewery is like a treasure trove of stories.

But it's not just the stories that make Lost Worlds special—it's also our surroundings that inspire adventure. Situated along the greenway, our taproom is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. When all the doors are folded open, it feels like one big outdoor space.

What would you like to see happen for Lost Worlds Charlotte in the next year?

What I truly hope for is to foster a sense of community where everybody knows everybody—a place where guests aren't customers, but family. I want Lost Worlds to be more than just a brewery; I want it to be a home away from home for our guests, a place where they feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated.

I imagine our taproom buzzing with laughter and conversation and our outdoor patio bustling with activity, with families, friends, and four-legged companions soaking up the sunshine and savoring the camaraderie.

But beyond the taproom, I see Lost Worlds becoming an integral part of the Midtown community. I envision us hosting events that bring people together, supporting local charities, and collaborating with neighboring businesses to create a thriving neighborhood.

What's the best adventure you've been on?

It's a tough call, but if I had to choose, I'd say the best adventure I've been on is a toss-up between whitewater rafting in Thailand and scuba diving in the Gold Coast of Australia. Both adventures hold a special place in my heart for different reasons.

Do you have a favorite style of beer and favorite Lost Worlds beer?

When it comes to beer, I have a soft spot for a couple of styles in particular: Pilsners and Schwarzbier. Now, as for Lost Worlds brews, my favorite from our lineup is Euchre. It hits all the right notes for me.
