The Background on our Brewery: Everything You Wanted to Know and More...

Founded on the premise that great beer and adventure go hand-in-hand, Lost Worlds Brewing is aiming to be that special gathering spot for adventure seekers. With the goal of encouraging guests to “Live Global, Drink Local,” the tap room is inspired by the explorers clubs of yesteryear. With a planned opening in early 2020, the brewery with an outdoor biergarten is located in the One Norman Plaza off the busy Catawba Avenue corridor and Exit 28 (I-77).

Founders Dave and Allison Hamme are launching the 5,000 square-foot brewery in the community they call home.  Their interest in craft brewery was cultivated during decades of home brewing and developing recipes that were too good not to share.  Dave will serve as Head of Operations and Innovation while Allison will be in charge of Human Resources and Finance.  Both founders share a background in business consulting. The Hammes’ first move after securing the location was to hire a seasoned Director of Brewing. David Gonzalez (DG), a well-known local brewer with 23 years of experience steps into this role after serving as Head Brewer at brewpub chain Rock Bottom and several local craft breweries. Mr. Gonzalez has won over two dozen beer medals throughout his career.

 The Beers

Lost Worlds Brewing will utilize a 10-barrel brewing system that will be visible from the 100-seat taproom. Eventually they will offer twelve beers on tap as well as several non-alcoholic options. To cater to the active Lake Norman crowd, Lost Worlds Brewing will focus on more sessionable style beers with crowlers available to-go.

“Every one of our beers will be purposefully named and tell a story, like our Vista India Pale Ale, inspired by discoverer Hiram Bingham, who discovered Machu Picchu and its breath-taking vista in 1911,” says Co-founder Dave Hamme.

 The Tap Room

The Lost Worlds Brewing tap room will feature brewery tours and private event and meeting space to accommodate up to 40 people.  As part of their commitment to community, Lost Worlds Brewing will donate up to 25 hours annually of meeting space for local non-profits providing an impact in the Lake Norman area.

From the taproom, the facility extends outdoors to include a 3000 square-foot pet-friendly biergarten that will offer food trucks, outdoor games and more.

“We are creating an entertainment company that also serves excellent craft beer,” says Dave Hamme.  “We intend to build a community where people can share or inspire – by joining a hiking or running club or learning about scuba diving from experts, or about history through the beers we brew.”
