We're Going to Let You In on a Little Secret...

If you’ve been around the Lost Worlds brand long enough, you know there’s a story behind every carefully crafted beer. Discoveries that shaped our world have become inspirations for the names of our Basecamp and Adventure Series brews since the beginning. Every beverage tells a tale to take our guests on an adventure, while the rich and detailed graphics visually support each story. But here’s something that perhaps you didn’t know…

“We like to hide little “easter eggs” in every beer graphic and can label as an added element of surprise,” says Dave Hamme, founder of Lost Worlds. “They’re not immediately obvious and there’s a good chance you may miss them if you’re not looking.”

What do we mean by easter egg? It’s a broad term to label covert meanings for hidden elements that brands bury in everything from logos to advertising. According to Lost Worlds’ lead graphic designer, Michelle Quinn, it’s a fun way to engage with the brand and a bonus in creating the beer art.

Take a closer look at the graphic for Vasa Baltic Porter, for example. What do you see floating in the water that ties to the ship’s demise? Check out the backdrop behind the label. What popular game does it remind you of? For a more current easter egg, examine our recently released Otto’s Dunkelweisen graphic and look closely behind the crown of Otto the Great. Here, we pay homage to the stained glass artwork by Bill McIntosh, of McIntosh Law Firm, who sponsors the LKN Chamber’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award (which you can find in our taproom as this year’s proud recipient).

Can you find the Lost Worlds lantern?

Next time you see the Lost Worlds logo somewhere, take a closer peek, the fun doesn’t stop with the art for our beer releases.  In fact, it all started with the logo, developed by Matt Benson. “We hide the lantern that’s a part of our logo design in places you see our brand throughout the community,” says Hamme. “Often when we participate in an event, we challenge our partners to hide the lantern in our logo somewhere. For example, the lantern showed up in the souvenir shirt from the Craft Beer Marathon hidden on the shirts back.

Next time you see the Lost Worlds logo or a new beer release alert, enlarge the image and hunt for the easter eggs.  You never know what you’ll find!
