NEW Limited Release: Goseck Black Lager

Goseck Black Lager is a German Schwarzbier-style beer – a style that is one of the oldest continually brewed beers. We hope you’ll join us and raise a stein to this classic while you watch this short video.

Why we named this Limited Edition beer, Goseck Black Lager

Located in Saxony, Germany is a Neolithic structure called the Goseck Circle. The circle consists of a concentric ditch 246 feet across and two palisade rings with openings corresponding exactly to the sunrise and sunset on the winter solstice and summer solstice. Radiocarbon dating conducted at the site indicates it was occupied from roughly 4900 B.C. to 4700 B.C. making it the oldest known structure in Central Europe. Excavations at the site uncovered pottery shards and the remains of ritual fires. However, nothing indicates why the site was eventually abandoned.

 The Discovery

Schwarzbiers are dark like a stout in color due to the roasted malt used in its brewing with hints of chocolate and toffee. Our take on this ancient style blends light roasted and bready malt notes with a noble-like hop character. Born in the German states of Thuringia and Saxony, this dark lager pairs well with the approach of autumn and winter.
