Hansa Bock is the Beer of Gratitude. Here's why...
When you enjoy this tasty brew, raise your glass with gratitude to those who surrounded you and salute new beginnings. This is the beer of gratitude, that warms the heart.
The Story Behind the Beer
In the late 1100’s, merchants across a handful of German towns banded together – and launched what later became known as the Hanseatic League. Hansa is the word for guild and was used to identify merchants traveling between Hanseatic cities by land or sea. These merchants banded together to protect their shared economic interests across their trading paths. As the Hanseatic League grew, it stretched across the Northern coast of Europe from France to Prussia and even up into Sweden. Over three hundred years, the League operated across a number of independent states – providing stability even in troubling times. For the past year, the COVID pandemic has rained misery across our state. Operating during this period has been challenging to say the least. During this time, Lost Worlds learned to rely on its partners – from other craft breweries to the NC Craft Brewer’s Guild. Hansa Winter Bock was crafted in gratitude of our partners. The NC Guild represented our interests in Raleigh, communicated COVID related policies, and supported us in every way possible. Hansa is our way of saying thank you to the Guild from Lost Worlds and our guests – we may well not have gotten out of the gate this year without them.
The Discovery
The style known now as bock was a dark, malty, lightly hopped ale first brewed in the 14th century by German brewers in the Hanseatic town of Einbeck. Lost Worlds Hansa Winter Bock is a copper brown in color. It hits the palate with a rich malty and slightly nutty taste – with a hint of chocolate tones. It’s the beer of gratitude., and with an 8 percent ABV, it also warms the heart when we need it most.
