Introducing Nebra Pilsner Lager
The Story Behind the Beer
The Nebra sky disc is a bronze disk around 30 cm in diameter with a blue green patina inlaid with gold symbols. These symbols represent the sun, the moon, and a cluster of stars including the Pleiades. It was found in Germany near Saxony-Anhalt by treasure hunters using a metal detector. Originally the Archaeological Association dated the disk to 1600 BC in the Bronze Age making it the earliest known representation of the cosmos. However, the date was arrived at by dating two bronze swords, two hatchets, fragments of spiral bracelets and radiocarbon dating was performed on wood attached to one of the swords. Researchers from a university dispute this assessment as they claim the disk was likely not a part of the hoard and was left at a later date. The disk is currently housed at the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle.
