Taproom Artifact: Sargon The Great

We named our variation of a Vienna Lager, Sargon, which is red in color with Amber hues. Similar to an Oktoberfest style beer, it was traditionally brewed in the spring and stored in caves to be consumed in the later cooler months. When the first cool snap arrived, the beer would be tapped to herald the new season.

Sargon the Great (ca 2340-2285 BC) was the King of the Akkadian Empire. The Akkadian Empire was formed when Sargon overthrew the Akkadian ruler and led the Akkadians to victory over the Sumerian kings to the South. In this way, he united all of Mesopotamia under one leader and forged the first empire in the history of the world. His reign is known for being the first political entity to make use of large-scale administration to oversee his empire that extended from present day Turkey through Iraq.

Interesting Fact: Sargon’s daughter, Enheduanna, is the world’s first known author, Her name appears on a 4000 year old alabaster disk discovered in the ancient Sumerian city of Ur. She presents the story of four individuals who are performing a sacred rite.
