One Talented Home Brewer gets his Tropical Stout on Tap

Imagine brewing beer in your kitchen and enjoying the fruits of your labor with friends and fellow home brewers. For one lucky home brewer, this was about to change. The Lake Norman area enjoys an active community of home brewing clubs and Lost Worlds decided to tap into these beer enthusiasts and celebrate their craft.

“Amongst our team at Lost Worlds, we thought it would be a good idea to reach out to the local home brew community and see what they were brewing,” says David Gonzalez, Director of Brewing. “With this, we thought that we'd offer a little competition with the winning beer recipe to be brewed at Lost Worlds with our brew crew.”

We received a good amount of entries from Iredell Brewers United (IBU) to be judged by a committee that included members of the Lost Worlds’ team. The IBU club came ready to compete with many quality entries for our team to sample. In the end, we all agreed that one beer stood above the rest: a Tropical Stout brewed by Tim Malinovsky. We invited him to brew his recipe on our system and spend the day in the Brew House so we could later offer his beer to our guests.

“I was very excited when I learned that my recipe was chosen to be able to work with pro brewers, I enjoyed the process and learned a lot from Dave and Harrison about ways I can improve on my home brew system to increase efficiency. Looking forward to sharing a pint with friends and members of IBU (Iredell Brewers United) home brew club

Tim’s Tropical Stout is is an American Stout which is dark in color with roasted malt notes. It utilized Citra Cryo hops which offer big citrus and floral notes, hence making it a Tropical Stout. We hope you’ll sample a pint and give Tim a high-five if you see him in the taproom on release day, Monday, December 19th at 5pm.
