Taproom Artifacts: Meet Agnes
Although the exact date is unknown, sometime in the late 1990’s, a group of MBA’s from Indiana University gathered in Chicago to enjoy each other’s company while watching the Cubs at Wrigley Field, enjoying the bar scene, and continually searching for deep belly laughs. A few beers into the morning, several members of the group stumbled upon a yard sale. And there they found Agnes, a rather beaten-up version of a taxidermized dolphin fish. After haggling with the owner, the mascot for the group was purchased and a tradition launched. Whenever the twenty or so odd friends gathered, Agnes showed up – crisscrossing the nation and making appearances at weddings, reunions, celebrations, concerts and all sorts of events. On a few occasions, Agnes opted to hide for a bit – forcing the outlay of hundreds of dollars to have her located by hotel staff or former landlords and shipped back to the last responsible party. Over the past twenty five years, Agnes has appeared in hundreds of photos, but her enduring legacy is one of friendship – the love shared between twenty or so best friends. Today, she is on loan to Lost Worlds Brewing in the possession of David Hamme – awaiting the next trip of the Indiana University Class of 1996 to North Carolina.
