Celebrating Three Years of LostAsana with Lindsay Robertson Yoga

As we head into our third Saturday season of LostAsana Yoga, we sat down with our coach, Lindsay Robertson, of Lindsay Robertson Yoga, to catch up. She’s been with us since the beginning, when we started yoga online at the onset of the pandemic. She makes us laugh, keeps things light, but don’t let that chill demeanor fool you. She’s highly trained, deeply engaged, and one of the most sought-after instructors around.

As we talked, it turns out, there’s a lot more going on behind the scene than you think as Lindsay heads back to the studio herself, continues her love of learning, and sets up her weekend for success on Saturdays at the brewery.

Q: You’ve been practicing yoga and coaching for a long time. Update us on your own practice?

A: I have gone back to practicing a power flow twice a week in order to regain my strength for handstands. I am also training more strength in my own practice, with huge amounts of mobility work.

Q: Can you believe LostAsana is in its third year?! How would you summarize these weekly sessions?

A: We have quite a few regulars that come weekly, and even text me to confirm if we are inside or outside:). It has been great to see such a wide range of ages, from 21 to mid 70’s -- all practicing their own modifications if necessary. Everyone is super welcoming and just on their mat to enjoy some movement and great beers.

Q: As we shift our yoga schedule with the season, what do you like about Saturday morning yoga?

A: Saturday am is my personal favorite time to practice yoga.  It sets up your weekend for success, by using movement as medicine.  We start out by warming up the body, as most peeps have not done much yet, and then build from there.

Q: Talk about your expertise with Athletes, your role with Davidson College athletes, and any new training you’re doing?

A: I was trained by Sage Rountree, one of the world’s leading educators on Yoga for Athletes.  Since completing my training with her, I have gone back to work with her again on the language of yoga, as well as sequencing a strength class.

I am in the middle of completing my Functional Range Conditioning Coach training, which specializes on mobility:  what good is strength and flexibility if the joints aren’t mobile?  It has been 11 years since I started working with the Davidson College sports teams, and they are still a highlight to my weeks.

I also completed an intensive on Yoga for Injury Prevention and Injury Management with Jason Crandell that was insanely detailed on understanding common injuries and how we can tweak our yoga practice to rebuild strength in these areas.

How does beer play a role? What’s your favorite style?

A: Studies have proven that 1 beer releases the same chemicals in the body as stretching does, helping us to relax. Some people enjoy one before, some sip on it during, and I always sip on one while teaching!  You’ll get a beer token with every class, but it’s totally optional

Q: What’s your favorite style beer?

A: I love All IPA’s, and currently Squanto’s Pumpkin Ale is my go-to.

Q: What’s your Favorite style yoga?

A: I enjoy power yoga in my own practice, and to teach, it has to be deep stretch or slow flow.

Please join us every Saturday from 10:30-11:30 for LostAsana Yoga. The fee is $10 and includes a beverage token. See you on your mats!
